Israel’s Air Force responded to a rocket attack from Gaza and reiterated that it held Hamas responsible for all attacks emanating from the Strip.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked infrastructure belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip early Monday morning in response to a rocket launched by terrorists at Israel’s civilian population Sunday evening.
Sirens went off in southern Israel, and the rocket exploded in an open space in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council, causing no injuries or damage.
Hamas, which rules the Strip, is held responsible by the IDF for any attacks or incidents launched from Gaza. No organization took responsibility for Sunday’s rocket attack.
In response, IAF aircraft attacked a Hamas training facility in the center of the Strip. No Palestinian casualties were reported.
“The IDF views Hamas as solely accountable for all events in the Gaza Strip, and will continue to operate with severity to maintain peace in the south” an IDF spokesperson said in a statement.
Since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014, there have been multiple rockets attacks from Gaza, and at least 21 rockets have exploded in Israeli territory. Sunday’s attack was the third since the beginning of 2016.
