Israel kills senior Hezbollah terror commander in Lebanon strike

One source said, ‘Things will flare up now.’

An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon killed a senior commander in the Hezbollah terror organization’s elite Radwan unit, according to Lebanese sources and reported by Reuters. 

Security sources identified him as Wissam al-Tawil a deputy head of the elite Radwan terror force within Hezbollah.

According to security sources, Wissam al-Tawil was killed in his car during an Israeli airstrike on the village of Majdal Selm.

The security source said, “This is a very painful strike.”

Another of the sources said,”Things will flare up now.”

Israel has not yet commented on the incident.

The reported killing comes with the potential escalation of conflict between Israel and Lebanon following the largest missile tack launched by Hezbollah against Israel since the beginning of the war with Gaza starting on October 7th.

On Saturday, Hezbollah launched 40 missiles into Israel sending off alarms in 90 northern communities and damaging a military radar station in Mount Meron.

According to a Hezbollah statement, the attack was a response to the killing of Hamas terror chief Saleh al-Arouri in Lebanon last week.

Although Hezbollah boasted of significant Israeli casualties and injuries, there were no reports of people killed or wounded in the attacks.

An hour later, another round was also directed at the Metula and Margaliot areas on the border.

On Saturday afternoon, Hezbollah rockets were aimed at Yiftah and Avivim with no reported injuries.

In response, the IDF hit a terror cell in Lebanon where many of the rockets were launched.

The IDF reported striking targets in Ayta ash-Shab, Yaroun, and Ramyah which included missile launch areas, military centers, and terrorist infrastructure.

Last week the Biden Administration sent special envoy Amos Hochstein in an attempt to prevent an escalation of the conflict between Iran and Hezbollah.

On Wednesday, Hochstein met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib and said the US has “a diplomatic effort underway to help resolve some of the tension” without providing further details.

After the attack, which was blamed on Israel, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed that any war with Israel would be “without limits.”

However, a senior Biden Administration official told the US press on Wednesday that Lebanon doesn’t want war with Israel.

“I think from everything that we can tell, there is no clear desire from Hezbollah to go to war with Israel, and vice versa,” he said.
