Israeli forces arrested a former senior Palestinian security officer on suspicion of incitement to terrorism and organizing violent rallies.

The police stated on Tuesday that the suspect, who was not named by police, organized a demonstration on Friday in the al-Ayda refugee camp near Bethlehem and was seen carrying a banner with a US flag and a picture of President Donald Trump with a swastika superimposed. The text equated Zionism with Nazism and the US with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror group.

The protest turned violent, and Israeli forces arrested several Palestinians for rock-throwing.

The suspect, in his 60s, served as a senior officer in the Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces until a few months ago. He was arrested Sunday at a checkpoint.

“This is one of the main instigators who we have been investigating for a number of months,” a Border Police officer said.

In related news, IDF forces carried out counter-terrorism operations throughout Judea and Samaria on Monday night, during which they arrested 12 Palestinians on terrorism-related offenses and seized firearms as well as funds meant for terrorism.
