Israel and Paraguay Deepen Ties, Sign Partnership

Israel takes another step towards becoming a leading global agricultural force by signing a cooperation agreement with Paraguay.

Israel and Paraguay signed a Joint Declaration of Intent, which establishes the framework to expand cooperation between the countries in the areas of irrigation, human capacity building, research and development, agricultural innovation, environment and agro-entrepreneurship.

The Joint Declaration was signed on Tuesday by Israeli Minister of Agriculture Yair Shamir and Paraguay’s Minister of Agriculture Jorge Raul Gattini Ferreira.

The groundbreaking agreement, similar to others Israel has recently signed, demonstrates confidence in Israeli innovation while enhancing cooperation within the framework of Public-Private Partnerships. Within this framework, Israeli companies will offer their services on a commercial basis through the platform of Ha’Igud, an Israeli governmental company.

This Declaration of Intent is yet another expression of the good relations between Israel and Paraguay, especially in light of the expected reopening of the Israeli embassy in Asuncion this summer, Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Ambassador Gil Haskel, head of MASHAV, Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation, said that “the re-opening of the Israeli embassy will contribute to strengthening cooperation between our countries, presenting an opportunity for sharing innovative technologies and know-how with the aim of promoting Paraguay’s agricultural sector.”
