Israel releases radical Islamic cleric imprisoned for incitement

A radical Islamic leader was released from prison. Vowing to continue his fight against the State of Israel, he may be tried again.

Sheikh Raed Salah, leader of the illegal Northern Wing of the Islamic Movement in Israel, was released on Tuesday from Ramon Prison after completing a nine-month term.

Salah was incarcerated after found guilty of incitement to violence and racism against Jews. After sentencing, he vowed to carry on with his fight “for Palestine and Jerusalem.”

During his prison term, Salah was questioned twice for allegedly continuing his incitement and for supporting the Northern Wing of the Islamic Movement after it had been outlawed by Israel in 2015.

The Islamic Movement in Israel, which has ideological ties with the Muslim Brotherhood and the Hamas terror group, has been blamed by Israeli leaders for stoking the incitement behind the recent wave of Palestinian terrorism.

Salah was previously imprisoned for funneling money to Hamas, the Islamic terror group that rules Gaza.

Police have recommended the Salah be tried again for similar offenses. Minister of Interior Aryeh Deri signed an order banning Salah’s exit from the country.
