Israel sentences Jerusalem Arab attorney who carried out attacks on Jews.

By World Israel News Staff

An Israeli military court sentenced Jerusalem attorney Tarek Barghout to 13 1/2 years in prison for carrying out four shooting attacks, Kan news reports. Some of the attacks resulted in wounded.

Barghout, who represented terrorists in Israeli court, had moved on to carrying out attacks himself. He said during questioning, according to Ha’aretz, that he was “fed up with the method of defeating the occupation through the courts.”

He lives in Ramallah and holds Israeli citizenship. Among the terrorists he represented was the Arab teenager who murdered Ari Fuld by stabbing him in the back.

Barghout carried out the attacks with the former leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades in Jenin, Zakaria Zubeidi, who had overseen suicide attacks, according to Israeli authorities, had been No. 1 on Israel’s most wanted list.

Zubeidi renounced militancy in mid-2007 and was given amnesty by Israel. The amnesty protected him from prosecution for attacks he carried out or organized during the Second Intifada, Kan reports.

The two were arrested by Israeli security forces last February as they attempted to commit yet another attack.

Barghout’s sentence was concluded as part of a plea deal he signed. According to Kan, he also framed Zubeidi.
