Israeli air force hits more Gaza targets after rocket attack

IDF fighter craft hit additional terror targets in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday evening after the rocket attack earlier in the afternoon.

IDF fighter jets struck a number of terror targets in a Hamas military compound on Wednesday night in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli military reported shortly after midnight on Thursday.

“The IDF will continue operating against attempts to harm Israeli civilians, and holds the Hamas terror organization accountable for events transpiring in the Gaza Strip and emanating from it,” the Army said.

The attacks were carried out in response to three rockets fired from Gaza on Wednesday afternoon. One of the rockets landed in a courtyard and damaged a house in the town of Netiv Ha’asra which lies to the north of the Gaza Strip.

The parents were at work and their three children in school at the time of the rocket impact, which scattered shrapnel into their home. No injuries were reported.

“I’m very unhappy with this situation,” Aviv Rosen, the homeowner, told i24News. “It’s our government weakness… It’s just something that represents it.”

Aviv’s wife, Edi, told Israel Hayom, “It’s a great miracle that the house was empty… They updated me on the rocket’s fall, and I understood it caused damage to the living room. I’m happy it’s just property damage and not more than that.”

On Wednesday evening, red alert sirens warning of a missile attack were sounded in Kibbutz Zikim and Moshav Mavki’im. They turned out to be false alarms. An Iron Dome interceptor was launched unnecessarily, the IDF reports.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday in an interview with Kan public radio that Israel might have no choice but to go to war in the Gaza Strip given the growing escalation of violence emanating from the Hamas-controlled enclave.
