The Israel Defense Forces said it launched simultaneous waves of airstrikes on Iranian targets in Tehran, Isfahan, and southern Iran on Monday.
Meanwhile, a senior Israeli military official said the Air Force has carried out more than 6,000 strikes on over 3,000 Iranian targets since the start of the campaign against the country’s leadership, military assets, and nuclear facilities.
“We are carrying out this operation in order to prevent Iran from posing an existential threat to Israel,” the official said, noting that Israeli and U.S. forces gained control of Iranian airspace within hours of the campaign.
Israeli forces have located and destroyed a large number of Iranian ballistic missile launchers, reducing their operational capabilities to less than 60%, he said.
He described the coordination with the U.S. as “historic for Israel,” saying the strikes were “unprecedented, with synchronized planning and execution on a scale never carried out before.”
“The remaining launchers and missiles are being actively hunted to minimize threats to Israel, the United States, and additional forces. Ultimately,” he concluded, “this operation is intended to ensure Israel’s security and change the region for the better. We are committed to protecting our citizens.”
