A pair of ambulances operated by the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency first responder organization were vandalized by radical, anti-Zionist members of the ultra-Orthodox community overnight.
The incident occurred before dawn Sunday morning, while two teams of MDA paramedics, dispatched in two separate ambulances, responded to an emergency call in the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Meah Shearim in Jerusalem.
As the paramedics were busy treating a patient in an apartment, the vandal or vandals spray-painted swastikas over the Israeli flags adorning the sides of the two ambulances.
“Last night, at around 3:00 a,m., Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance and intensive care teams were dispatched to treat a patient in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem,” an MDA spokesperson announced Sunday.
“While paramedics and medics entered the patient’s apartment to provide medical care, unidentified individuals vandalized the MDA ambulances, drawing swastikas on the Israeli flags affixed to the vehicle’s sides,” the spokesperson said.
“When the teams returned to their vehicles, they were shocked to discover the serious act of vandalism and immediately reported it to the Jerusalem police, filing an official complaint.”
MDA Director-General Eli Bin castigated the vandals and called on police to “take action” against those responsible.
“This is a severe and appalling incident that has no place in our society. MDA teams are on the ground to save lives, regardless of religion, race, or nationality, and they must be able to carry out their mission without fear of violence or property damage,” Bin said.
“We trust law enforcement authorities to take action and hold those responsible for this despicable act accountable.”
