Israeli arrested for bomb threats on Jewish institutions

Israeli police arrested a citizen on suspicion he was behind the recent wave of bomb threats to Jewish institutions around the globe.

Israel’s police on Thursday arrested an Israeli on suspicion he was behind the recent wave of bomb threats to Jewish institutions around the globe.

The 443 cyber unit arrested a 19-year-old resident of Ashkelon, in the south, after a months-long investigation in several countries led the law enforcement agencies to Israel.

The teen is suspected of calling in false threats to institutions around the world, which resulted in the immediate evacuation of the premises and, in many cases, significant financial loss.

FBI agents and members of several other security agencies arrived in Israel and joined local police forces in tracking down the suspect. His father was detained for questioning.

The suspect is believed to have harassed institutions in Australia, New Zealand, the US and Israel.

He reportedly has dual US-Israeli citizenship and does not serve in the IDF.

He will be indicted in Israel, and it is yet unclear if he will be extradited to the US.

Since January, at least 165 bomb threats have targeted Jewish institutions in 36 US states as well as in Canada, including community centers, schools and synagogues.

To date, one other man has been arrested in connection with eight of these threats.
