The IDF is participating in a major military exercise in Cyprus, focusing on survival strategies in mountainous areas.

Israeli special forces will take part in a weeklong training exercise in the Trodos Mountains, Cypriot media reports.

According to the Cyprus Mail, the drill will focus on scenarios for occupying and liberating villages and survival strategies in the mountainous range which rises to a height of some 2,000 meters above seal level.

Some 400 commandos will take part in the exercise. According to the Hebrew daily Ha’aretz, the drill will also include the use of Black Hawk helicopters.

The exercise is believed to be the largest since the two countries started holding joint exercises in 2014.

In March, Israel and Cyprus held a three-day joint military exercise named ‘Onisilos-Gideon’ that tested Cypriot air defenses. In May, Israel sent observers to a 22-nation maritime search and rescue drill labeled Exercise Argonaut.
