The nominees for the 2019 Academy Awards were announced on Tuesday, and among them were a number of Jewish talents and one Israeli film.

The English-language movie “Skin,” by Israeli director and co-writer Guy Nativ, was nominated for Best Live Action Short Film. The movie centers around two gangs who engage in a cold-blooded war, which has a shocking end, after a black man smiles at a 10-year-old white boy across the checkout aisle inside a supermarket located in a blue collar town.

Brothers Joel Coen and Ethan Coen received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” which they wrote, directed and produced. The American Western comedy was also nominated for Best Costume Design and Best Original Song.

“RGB,” about the life and legacy of Jewish Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature, and Jewish actress Rachel Weisz was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Favorite,” which tied with “Roma” in dominating this year’s list of Oscar nominations with 10 nods each.

Jewish composer Marc Shaiman was nominated for Best Original Score for “Mary Poppins Returns” and for Best Original Song for “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from the same movie, which is an update of the 1964 film.

Jewish songwriter, producer and DJ Marc Ronson was also nominated as part of the team behind the track “Shallow,” from “A Star Is Born,” which received a Best Original Song nomination.

The 91st Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
