Gefen Bitton, the Israeli who sprinted straight at the terrorists during the Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre and was shot multiple times, has been medically evacuated from Sydney to Israel for continued treatment at Sheba Medical Center (Tel HaShomer).
After weeks in critical condition and a string of complex surgeries, Bitton was stabilized enough to fly—still classified as seriously injured—and transferred directly to Sheba’s ICU on arrival.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he visited Bitton at St. Vincent’s Hospital before the evacuation and confirmed the government’s support for the medevac after delays tied to flight clearances.
The Bondi attack targeted a Jewish Hanukkah gathering, killing 15 and wounding dozens—one of the deadliest antisemitic terror strikes in Australia’s history—while Bitton’s split-second decision to run back toward the gunfire helped save lives.
