Israeli intelligence links attacks on IDF and Druze to officials connected with President al-Sharaa

The reports come amid broader warnings about attempts by Syrian-based groups to intensify operations against Israeli forces and local communities.

Israeli officials say intelligence collected in recent weeks points to direct involvement by operatives linked to President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s General Intelligence Directorate in efforts to encourage attacks inside Syria.

According to details reported by Kan 11 News, these operatives have been active not only against Israeli troops but also against the Druze community in Khader.

The assessment emerged after the IDF confirmed a nighttime raid carried out by reservists from the 55th Brigade in the Beit Jinn area, a mountainous region on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon overnight on Friday.

The force entered the town to detain two brothers identified with al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya. Military officials say the pair had previously planted explosive devices and were involved in launching missiles.

Both were taken from their beds without resistance and transferred for questioning.

The incident escalated only after the troops completed the arrest and began withdrawing from the area.

Gunfire erupted from roughly 200 meters away, targeting a military vehicle positioned near the house.

Six reservists inside were struck, three of them suffering serious injuries. Troops on the ground responded immediately, firing toward the source of the attack and killing several terrorists.

IDF units continued to sweep the vicinity following the exchange, leading to the detention of two additional suspects who were later moved to Israel for further investigation.

The reports come amid broader warnings about attempts by Syrian-based groups to intensify operations against Israeli forces and local communities.

The involvement of figures tied to Syrian intelligence, according to Kan 11’s sources, adds another layer of concern for Israeli officials monitoring the northern arena.

Related material released in recent weeks has pointed to weapons caches, expanding infrastructure of hostile organizations, and rising tensions inside Syria, all contributing to heightened alert levels along the border.
