An Israeli minister extended greetings to Iranian protesters demonstrating throughout the Islamic Republic.

Minister of Transportation and Intelligence Yisrael Katz told IDF Radio on Monday that while Israel is not involved in the uprising, he wishes the Iranian people “success in the struggle for freedom and democracy.

In recent days Iran has seen widespread anti-government protests on basic issues such as employment and the high cost of living, the largest since those that followed a disputed election in 2009.

Several demonstrators have reportedly been killed in the clashes.

President Donald Trump again voiced his support for the demonstrators on Sunday when he tweeted that the US stands with the “peaceful protestors in Iran who are speaking out for freedom and we condemn the arrests of innocents.”

“The time has come for the regime in Tehran to end terrorist activities, corruption, & their disregard for human rights,” Trump added.

Ignoring the voices on the street, an Iranian minister blamed Israel and the US for “gleefully” cheering the protests, “as if something was happening in Iran.”

“Our enemies, especially those who have no standing in their [own] countries and [have] not been elected by [their] people, have claimed to be backing our people and our people’s rights in the past few days,” Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said Sunday, according to Iran’s Press TV.
