President Reuven Rivlin will begin consultations on Monday with all parties elected to the Knesset, as agreed together with Judge Hanan Melcer, chairman of the Central Elections Committee.

Once Rivlin receives the official results of the elections from Judge Melcer two days later, he will decide whether a further round of consultations is required.

According to custom, the president will meet with the parties, hear their recommendations and, at the end of the consultations with all parties, announce who he has entrusted with forming a government. According to Israel’s “Basic Law: The Government,” that person has 28 days to form a new coalition.

If required, the president can allocate up to 14 additional days.

In a historic and pioneering decision by the president, Rivlin has ordered that the meetings with the parties will be broadcast live on all platforms in order to ensure transparency for Israeli citizens.
