IDF announces it recently struck an Iranian research center used to develop technology for weaponizing fissile material.

Israeli warplanes bombed an Iranian research center used to develop nuclear weapons technology, the IDF announced Thursday afternoon.
According to an army spokesperson, the Israeli Air Force recently carried out strikes on the Taleghan-2 facility, a top-secret nuclear weapons research facility located inside the Parchin Military Complex southeast of Tehran.
“In recent years, the site was used to develop advanced explosives and to conduct sensitive experiments as part of Project ‘Amad,’ the secret program for developing nuclear weapons in the 2000s,” the IDF said.
The Taleghan-2 facility, which is said to have been operational, was first struck by IDF forces in October 2024.
Since then, however, satellite imagery has shown that the regime has rebuilt and fortified the facility.
Last month, prior to the beginning of Operation Roaring Lion on February 28, images from Taleghan-2 showed that the structure was being buried under soil, apparently in an effort to shield the facility in the event of a new conflict with the US and Israel.
On Thursday, the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS) reported that new satellite imagery shows that Taleghan-2 has been attacked recently, confirming the IDF’s statement.
David Albright, a physicist who heads ISIS, said that analysis of the satellite photos taken a day earlier revealed three impact craters and evidence of severe internal damage to the facility.
“Taleghan 2 has been attacked, likely destroyed internally. Three holes can be seen in the soil covering its roof.”
According to ISIS, the craters were consistent with the use of bunker-buster bombs.
“Imagery shows three large bunker-buster penetration holes entering the top of the facility, directly into the area where a suspected high-explosive containment vessel suitable for nuclear weapons development-related testing may have been,” the ISIS wrote on X.
“The overlay shows that the bunker buster bombs were not only precisely on target along the length of the main HE test chamber hall, but it is clear that the interior was destroyed as well, given that the main blast(s) traveled outward from the interior to cause significant collateral damage, showing that it knocked down a protective defensive wall and destroyed a small building southeast of the facility by concussion from the main bunker-buster blasts.”
