Israeli woman killed in car-ramming; suspect denies terror motive

An Israeli woman died on Thursday night after she was run over by a Palestinian vehicle in the northern West Bank.

The incident took place on Route 60 close to the entrance of the Havat Gilad community in Samaria, southwest of Shechem (Nablus).

Initial reports said the driver of the car fled in the direction of the adjacent Palestinian village of Jit.

An investigation into the incident was launched, and the IDF set up roadblocks in the area in an effort to find the driver

The driver later turned himself in to Palestinian police, claiming he had hit the woman by accident and that it was not a terrorist attack.

According to the Hebrew news site Ynet, Israeli defense officials believed the driver’s assertion.

However, the head of the Samaria Regional Council, Yossi Dagan, insisted it was an attack, noting that the section of the road where the woman was hit was well-lit and there were no skid marks on the pavement. He described the incident as a “cold-blooded murder.”

In January, Rabbi Raziel Shevach — a 35-year-old father of six — was shot dead in a drive-by shooting near the same location of Thursday’s incident.
