Israel’s Iron Dome shields UAE from Iranian missile attack

Iranian missile launched towards the United Arab Emirates was successfully shot down thanks to an Israeli Iron Dome missile defense battery.

An Israeli-operated Iron Dome air defense system successfully intercepted an Iranian missile over the United Arab Emirates on Monday, marking the first known use of the system to defend a Gulf state, according to a report published by CNN.

The interception was carried out by an Israeli system deployed in the UAE earlier in the war, with Israeli personnel operating the battery, according to a source familiar with the incident who was cited by CNN.

The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions following a renewed wave of Iranian missile attacks targeting the Emirates, a key US and Israeli ally in the Gulf.

Previous reports said that the Iron Dome system was secretly deployed to the UAE at the outset of the conflict, in what officials described as an unprecedented step in security cooperation between Israel and an Arab state.

The latest Iranian strike on the UAE has raised concerns in Israel and the United States that the fragile ceasefire with Tehran could collapse.

The Iron Dome system, designed to intercept short-range rockets and missiles, has been a central component of Israel’s multi-layered air defense network for over a decade.

Its deployment in the UAE underscores deepening defense ties between the two countries, which have strengthened since the normalization of relations in 2020 and accelerated during the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Earlier reports indicated that the system had already intercepted “dozens of Iranian missiles” over the Emirates since its deployment, highlighting the intensity of the threat facing the Gulf state.

Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones across the region since the start of the war, targeting not only Israel but also US assets and allies in the Gulf, including the UAE.

Officials have not publicly confirmed further details of the interception, and it remains unclear whether additional systems will be deployed to the region if hostilities escalate further.
