JCCs request more help from White House in tackling bomb threats

In a letter to Jeff Sessions, the JCC Association of North America expressed appreciation for Trump’s condemnation of anti-Semitism, but expressed frustration with the speed of progress in countering bomb threats.

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) Association of North America sent a letter to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, requesting the Justice Department do more to counter the constant waves of bomb threats against JCCs across the country since the beginning of the year.

While the letter expressed gratitude and appreciation for President Donald Trump’s unequivocal condemnation of anti-Semitic threats, the 141 JCC signatories wrote that gaps remain in containing the continuous rounds of bomb scares.

“We are frustrated with the progress in resolving this situation,” the letter said. “We insist that all relevant federal agencies, including your own, apply all resources available to identify and bring the perpetrator or perpetrators, who are trying to instill anxiety and fear in communities across the country, to justice.”

“Local law enforcement have represented a beacon of responsiveness and professionalism as our communities have endured dozens of anti-Semitic threats in past weeks,” the letter added. “We respectfully ask federal agencies, including your own, do the same.”

All 100 members of the United States Senate signed a letter of their own earlier this week, calling for the Trump administration to address the wave of bomb threats against Jewish community centers across the US more actively.
