Jerusalem neighborhood in panic following stabbing, possible double homicide

A Jerusalem neighborhood is in “panic” and feels its security undermined after a teenager was stabbed and an elderly couple killed.

After a young girl was stabbed at a bus stop on Jan. 9 and an elderly couple was found dead in their apartment on Monday on the same street, the feeling among residents in the Armon Hanatziv neighborhood of Jerusalem is “panic,” according to daily newspaper Israel Hayom.

Police and security forces, including Jerusalem District Commander Yoram Halevi, descended on the neighborhood Monday morning after the grisly discovery of the bodies of Yehuda and Tamar Kaduri, both in their 70s.

Although Armon Hanatziv, also known as East Talpiot, lies near Palestinian villages and has seen terrorist incidents in the past, the two events have undermined residents’ feeling of security.

“We are afraid. First the attempted stabbing of the girl last week, and now this murder in a quiet street. There never was such a thing,” a neighbor of the dead couple told Israel Hayom. “We feel that they [the police] are trying to sweep and hide the attack that was here last week so as not to cause panic, but at the end of the day there is a girl who is traumatized and a neighborhood that is in panic. ”

The bodies of Tamar and Yehuda Kaduri showed signs of violence, including stab wounds, according to police, who suspect a double homicide. However, the stab wounds were not what killed the couple, the police say.

The Kaduris have been dead since last week. Their daughter called emergency services after having tried unsuccessfully to reach them for the last couple of days. They lived on Mordechai Elkahi Street.

It was on Mordechai Elkahi street that a 15-year-old girl was was stabbed several times, including in her neck. She was evacuated to Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem in light-to-moderate condition. The attacker remains at large.

In addition to their daughter, the Kaduris also left behind two sons.
