Jilted wife causes bomb scare at Geneva airport

A jilted woman trying to stop her husband from leaving town is facing criminal charges after falsely reporting a bomb threat at Geneva’s airport.

As the saying goes, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

The latest bomb scare at an international airport was not the result of Islamic terror. Rather, a woman wanting to prevent her husband from boarding a plane gave a false report, calling security at Geneva’s Cointrin airport to say that a person with a bomb was present.

“Yesterday in the evening, a woman called Swiss customs at Geneva airport. She said that today a person carrying a bomb would be in the French sector of the airport,” the city prosecutor’s office said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Swiss security traced the telephone number to Annecy, France, some 45 km from Geneva, the Reuters report continued. “They found a woman who admitted to having made the call and explained that she wanted thereby to prevent her husband from leaving,” the statement said.

As a result, security was tightened, including the presence of officers with machine guns on site, and detailed checking of cars on roads approaching the airport, causing traffic backlogs, flight delays – and panic. Most entrances to the airport were closed, and passengers entering through the permitted doors were scrutinized.

Security was also increased at the border with France, which has suffered deadly Islamic terror attacks over the past couple of years.

Criminal charges against the woman were filed.
