U.S. President Donald Trump has “made it clear to the Palestinians that the U.S. does not have to help them,” says Jared Kushner, a top Trump aide and son-in-law of the president, in an interview with the Al-Quds newspaper, as cited by the Arutz 7 website.
“They were also told that if they continue to criticize our policy – the aid would stop, and so it was,” Kushner reportedly added.
Regarding a two-day U.S.-led Mideast economic conference beginning in Manama on Tuesday, the U.S. envoy told Al Jazeera that the event would turn out successful despite the Palestinian boycott because of the presence of delegates from regional countries and a large number of international investors, says the news outlet.
The Americans have already announced details of a regional economic plan. On a still-unpublished plan for peace between Israelis and Palestinians, Kushner told Al Jazeera: “We’ve been working very carefully on a very detailed proposal for what we think can help bring this conflict, which has been stuck, forward and we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to put that out soon and hopefully parties will be responsible, they’ll engage on it, and they’ll try to move forward.”
The Palestinian Authority announced a stop to diplomatic contacts with the Trump administration over the U.S. president’s declaration in December 2017 in which he recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“Israel is a sovereign nation; a sovereign nation has the right to determine where their capital is and America has the right to recognize the decision of another sovereign nation, which is what we chose to do,” said Kushner in the Al Jazeera interview, in defense of Trump’s declaration.
