British MP who quit Labour branded ‘Jew whore’ who should ‘burn in ovens’

A British MP has received death threats since leaving the Labour party over its anti-Semitism.

A British Labour party member who split from the party in protest over its “culture of anti-Semitism” has received two death threats and was branded a “Jew whore” who should burn “in the ovens,” the Daily Mail reported on Sunday.

Joan Ryan, who quit Labour last month, called police, the paper said, after receiving the threats. One was a handwritten note just over a week ago which used grotesque profanities, saying she defected to Israel and should be raped and “set on fire.”

The second letter read: “Stop telling lies about Jeremy Corbyn – he is a decent man, you lying Jew whore. You need to be shoved right back in the ovens.”

Ryan is not even Jewish, but she has spoken out strongly against anti-Semitism in the Labour party.

She also believes she is under surveillance, reporting to Scotland Yard that she saw “a black car that was parked near her constituency office with three men inside,” according to the Mail.

In response to the death threats, the Mail continued, Ryan said: “That people can send such filth-laden, disgusting messages is a shocking testament to how low our politics has now sunk. But the fact that some people think they can do so explains why many of us felt we had to quit the Labour Party last week.

“My main concern now is for the safety of my staff who put in so much hard work in the constituency and in Parliament. However, we must never let up on the fight against the evil of anti-Semitism.”

When Ryan left Labour last month, she said that Corbyn “presided over a culture of anti-Semitism and hatred of Israel,” and that she was “horrified” at Labour’s failure to fight anti-Semitism.

In her parting statement, she said:

“The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn has become infected with the scourge of anti-Jewish racism. The problem simply did not exist in the party before his election as leader.

“No previous Labour leader would have allowed this huge shame to befall the party. I have been horrified, appalled and angered to see the Labour leader’s dereliction of duty in the face of this evil.”
