Lebanese protest Israeli ‘spy devices’ on border

Lebanese demonstrators approached the Israeli border in protest of, “Zionist violations against Lebanon’s southern territories.”

On Saturday Lebanese protesters crossed the international border towards Israel near Kibbutz Manara in the north and were pushed back by IDF forces.

The demonstrators were protesting recent reports that Israel has planted surveillance equipment on Lebanese soil.

The soldiers fired smoke grenades at the protestors, who quickly retreated.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The Lebanese Al-Manar station, affiliated with the Hezbollah terror group, reported that the protest was against, “Zionist violations against Lebanon’s southern territories.”

The report claimed IDF troops fired tear gas at the demonstration, leading to, “several cases of suffocation.”

The report further claimed that on Wednesday, a 12-member Israeli team crossed the electronic border fence on the outskirts of Mays al-Jabal and “planted spy devices consisting of a camera and a transmission instrument that are both solar powered.”

The UN peacekeeping force, known by the acronym UNIFIL, said it is investigating the various claims.

UNIFIL spokeswoman Andrea Tenenti said there are no Israeli cameras that violate UN demarcated borders.

There have been previous reports of alleged exposures of Israeli surveillance efforts within Lebanon.
