The Irish Senate voted to approve a proposal to criminalize doing business with Jews in Judea, Samaria, parts of Jerusalem and the Golan Heights — areas that came under Israel’s control after the 1967 Six Day War.
“It is a waste of time to summon the ambassador of Ireland to Israel to be disciplined,” Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman tweeted.
“We have nothing to discuss with Israel’s enemies. Shuttering the Israeli embassy in Dublin is the only answer,” Liberman tweeted. “Turning the other cheek to a country which boycotts us is not an option.”
The Irish legislation which criminalizes doing business with firms and companies located in areas of Israel that came under Israeli control after the Six Day War passed in a 25-20 vote on Wednesday. In response, Israel summoned the Irish ambassador to the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s office where he was reprimanded.
If Ireland moves forward with the bill and ratifies it, it will be the first EU-member -state to adopt a BDS legislation against Israel.
