Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman visited the Gaza Division on Monday and held an assessment meeting with IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot, GOC Southern Command Herzi Halevi and other senior IDF officials, during which he stated that “the question regarding the next round of fighting is not a question of ‘if’ but of ‘when.'”

“I am sure we will do what needs to be done and how it should be done,” he added. “We are conducting a responsible and powerful security policy. We are prepared and know what to do and how to do it.”

Israel and Hamas have come close to serious conflict in recent weeks after four months of Hamas-led violence along Israel’s border with Gaza.

Israel last week saw two days of the heaviest exchange of Palestinian rocket fire and reprisal Israeli airstrikes since Operation Protective Edge in 2014.

Gaza terrorists fired some 200 rockets at Israel and the Israeli military carried out some 160 airstrikes on Gaza in this latest round of violence.

Hamas on Thursday announced a ceasefire. It was the third such truce in recent weeks.
