Lindsey Graham warns Trump’s Iran deal may not be what it seems

A key Republican ally of US President Donald Trump is raising fresh doubts about the emerging Iran deal, warning that Washington and Tehran appear to have fundamentally different understandings of what was agreed.

US Senator Lindsey Graham said he hopes diplomacy can permanently block Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, but cautioned that “we still must understand who we are dealing with.” He also warned that Iran-backed Hezbollah has continued attacking Israel despite the ceasefire, stressing that “no matter what deal we sign with Iran,” the terror group’s commitment to Israel’s destruction has not changed.

Graham said he is “concerned” by conflicting accounts of the agreement, amid reports that Iran expects sanctions relief and the release of billions of dollars in frozen assets. He insisted any final deal must face congressional scrutiny, warning that only the full text will reveal whether it truly dismantles Iran’s nuclear ambitions or grants Tehran major concessions while leaving its terror network intact. He concluded: “May God protect the United States and may God protect the State of Israel.”
