“After 50 years, it’s time to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to respect its sovereignty,” Minister Erdan stated.
Israeli Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan canceled a meeting with visiting German Members of Parliament after they refused to meet at his office, situated in eastern Jerusalem.
Erdan turned down their request to have the meeting relocated, saying he would not lend a hand to the European boycott on parts of Israel’s capital, Israel Hayom reported.
Several European countries deem parts of Jerusalem as “occupied” by Israel.
“We will not accept a boycott on our capital Jerusalem, or parts of it,” Erdan stated. “Whoever is interested in learning from our experience in fighting terrorism is invited to arrive at the Ministry of Public Security, even if it’s in the eastern part of the city.”
He called on the German government to reconsider its policies regarding Jerusalem. “After 50 years, it’s time to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and to respect its sovereignty.”
Erdan was slated to meet with seven German lawmakers from various parties on Monday on issues concerning public security.
