Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has called on the FBI to launch an investigation into anti-Israel protests demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, suggesting that at least some of the rallies may have been orchestrated by the Russian government.

Speaking with CNN Sunday, Pelosi, who represents San Francisco in the House, noted the Kremlin’s staunch support for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, arguing that Moscow is linked to at least some of the protests in major American cities following the October 7th invasion.

“For them to call for a ceasefire is Mr. Putin’s message, Mr. Putin’s message. Make no mistake, this is directly connected to what he would like to see.”

“I think some of these protesters are spontaneous, organic, and sincere. Some I think are connected to Russia, and I say that having look at this for a long time now,” Pelosi continued. “Some financing should be investigated and I want to ask the FBI to investigate that.”

Pelosi went on to lament that the bifurcation within the Democratic party over the Gaza war and the Biden administration’s policies towards it have hurt the party and could help Donald Trump’s bid to unseat Biden this November.

“They’re going to have to make a decision: Staying home to enable or to…organize and get out there and get the job done,” Pelosi said of progressives frustrated with Biden’s handling of the Gaza war.

“I have every confidence that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be president and vice president of the United States.”

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – a group ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas – castigated Pelosi over her comments, calling them an “unsubstantiated smear.”

CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad, who openly declared his support for Hamas in 1994 before recanting in 2006, called Pelosi’s comments “authoritarian.”

“We are deeply disturbed by Former House Speaker Pelosi’s comments. Rep. Pelosi’s claim that some of the Americans protesting for a Gaza ceasefire are working with Vladmir Putin sounds delusional and her call for the FBI to investigate those protesters without any evidence is downright authoritarian.”
