Trump continues to point at the media for the ongoing campaign and violent protests against his presidency despite his electoral victory.
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who won a substantial victory over Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton after an intense, vitriolic competition, blamed the media for the nationwide demonstrations – some violent – following confirmation of the election results.
“Just had a very open and successful presidential election. Now professional protesters incited by the media, are protesting. Very unfair!,” Trump wrote on Twitter Wednesday night.
Trump had repeatedly blamed the media for being biased against him throughout the campaign.
Social media was filled with laments by Clinton supporters who had great difficulty accepting the fact that their candidate lost the election. While thousands protested peacefully, other demonstrations included flag-burning, physical assaults against Trump supporters, blocking traffic, destruction of personal property and calls for the incoming president’s assassination.
Many observers expressed shock at the situation on several college campuses, including the prestigious Yale University, where allegedly traumatized students were coddled and exempt from writing exams upon hearing the results.
A small number of racist, threatening demonstrations against Jews and Muslims by Trump supporters also took place.
In an email Thursday to his groups’ donors and employees, obtained by AP, billionaire conservative donor Charles Koch said that Americans are “more deeply divided than at any point in my lifetime.”
Meanwhile, Trump reported a positive meeting with outgoing President Barack Obama at the White House, tweeting, “A fantastic day in D.C. Met with President Obama for first time. Really good meeting, great chemistry. Melania liked Mrs. O a lot!”
