Nazi soldier poster with Star of David shocks Rome commuters

The vandalism comes after a disturbing mural showing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kissing Hitler appeared in the Italian capital several weeks ago.

Rome’s public transport system became the latest target of antisemitic vandalism this week when commuters discovered a disturbing poster at a Trastevere bus stop showing a Nazi uniform with a Jewish Star of David serving as an armband replacement for a swastika.

Located in Sonnino Square in the vibrant Trastevere district, the bus stop sees thousands of locals and visitors daily.

ATAC, Rome’s public transport authority, quickly directed its contractor to remove the offensive poster on Wendesday and stated it would pursue a police complaint, Israel Hayom reports.

The vandalism comes after a disturbing mural showing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kissing Hitler appeared in the Italian capital several weeks ago.

In June a masked vandal struck a synagogue, using black marker to leave behind a swastika and antisemitic statements including “Sieg Heil” and “Juden Raus” on a sign outside the building’s entrance.

Just days prior, Milan saw similar antisemitic signs declaring, “Israelis not welcome here.”

Dozens of posters with that message were discovered across Milan this week, plastered on storefronts, walls and metro station entrances, including near the city’s Jewish quarter. Municipal workers have begun removing them and police have opened an investigation.

Jewish city council member Daniele Nahum said antisemitism in Milan is now “out of control.”

Six individuals were identified from security footage carrying similar signs, according to the Jewish-Italian outlet Shalom.

Similar incidents have been reported in Naples and other Italian cities, including signs reading “Zionists and Israelis not welcome here.”
