Netanyahu: Israel blocked attempt by Palestinians to join Interpol

The Palestinians have again failed in their effort to find new arenas in which they can combat Israel’s legitimacy and damage it on global stages.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed Tuesday that Israel has been successful in thwarting in attempt by the Palestinian Authority (PA) to join Interpol.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new Jezreel Valley rail line, Netanyahu stated that “this morning, Israel blocked an attempt by the Palestinians to become members of Interpol.”

Israel’s “difficult but successful effort reflects the change in Israel’s international standing and the expansion of our relations with different countries,” Netanyahu stated.

He thanked the Foreign Ministry, National Security Council and Israel’s Police for their combined efforts.

The International Criminal Police Organization or Interpol, is an intergovernmental organization facilitating international police cooperation. It was established as the International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC) in 1923. It has a global membership of 190 countries.

The PA currently attains the status of a “Partially recognized states without membership.”

Over the past few years, the PA has attempted to join several international bodies, such as the International Criminal Court (ICC), in an attempt to circumvent negotiations with Israel and attain international recognition, and in an effort to find new arenas in which they can combat Israel’s legitimacy and besmirch it on global stages.

“The struggle in international bodies will certainly continue, but I have no doubt about the general long-term trend: Israel is strengthening its relations with countries around the world, and this reality will ultimately be reflected in the United Nations and other international institution,” Netanyahu stressed.
