Netanyahu tells French President to heed Trump’s warning and fix Iran deal

In a phone conversation with the French president on Saturday night, Netanyahu said that “whoever wants to keep the nuclear deal would be wise to fix it.”

A day after US President Donald Trump waived economic sanctions on Iran but delivered an ultimatum to America’s European allies – saying they should fix the “terrible flaws” in the nuclear deal or he’ll pull the US out in a few months’ time – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told French President Emmanuel Macron that Trump’s threat should be taken seriously.

“This is a last chance,” Trump warned in a statement Friday that outlined several tough new rules on Iran. “In the absence of such an agreement, the United States will not again waive sanctions in order to stay in the Iran nuclear deal.”

“Trump’s remarks should be taken seriously, and whoever wants to keep the nuclear deal would be wise to fix it,” a statement from Netanyahu’s office read.

He told Macron that the free world should “strongly condemn the five crimes of the Iranian regime,” which are “efforts to obtain nuclear weapons, developing ballistic missiles against UN Security Council resolutions, supporting terror, regional aggression,” and “the cruel repression of Iranian citizens.”

Iran rejected the US demands. In a statement carried by the state-run IRNA news agency Saturday, the Foreign Ministry said Iran “will not accept any change in the deal, neither now nor in future.”
