New Epstein files cite alleged meeting with former Iranian president

Periodic releases of court and investigative records tied to Jeffrey Epstein continue to draw scrutiny, as newly disclosed documents reference prominent political, academic, and public figures connected to the disgraced financier.

On February 1, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the release of roughly 3 million Epstein-related documents, including hundreds of thousands of images and thousands of videos, marking the largest public disclosure of material connected to the case since federal proceedings began.

Epstein, who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, was widely described by prosecutors as the central figure in a long-running network that exploited underage girls.

Among the latest documents highlighted by BBC Persian is an email sent to Epstein by Robert Trivers, a prominent American evolutionary biologist. In the March 24, 2018, email, Trivers refers to what he describes as a meeting between Epstein and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president of Iran.

In the message, Trivers describes Epstein’s political connections in stark terms and refers explicitly to Ahmadinejad.

“Another thing I like about you, but I don’t understand, and we haven’t talked about yet, is that you are so deviant and perverse in your dealings with your political allies,” Trivers wrote.

He went on to claim that Epstein moved easily across ideological extremes, adding that Epstein was “a radical Islamist because Ahmadinejad is visiting you in New York after he made a diatribe against Israel, Zionists, and maybe even Jews in general.”

Trivers also wrote that he had searched Ahmadinejad’s background online, noting that the former Iranian president was “an engineer and teacher with a poor background,” before asking Epstein directly, “So that’s why you contacted him?”

The email does not specify when the alleged meeting took place, and no corroborating evidence of such a meeting appears in the released documents.

BBC Persian noted that this is not the only instance in which Iran or Iranian figures appear in the newly released Epstein materials, though the significance and accuracy of several references remain unclear.

Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013 and remains a controversial figure internationally due to his hostility toward Israel and the West, as well as his support for Iran’s nuclear program.

His former media adviser, Ali Akbar Javanfekr, dismissed the claim outright, calling it “nothing but news-making based on lies and deception” in a statement posted to Telegram.
