New York City Mayor Eric Adams arrived at the Western Wall on Sunday night, closing out his term with a wide-ranging solidarity visit that stood in stark contrast to the hostile rhetoric of his incoming successor, Zohran Mamdani.
Adams began his trip meeting with recently released hostages and visited Israel’s IMI Academy, a global leader in counterterrorism and law enforcement training, to study tactics that could enhance public safety back in New York City.
On Sunday night he was warmly welcomed by worshippers and visitors at the Wall, where he was briefed on its historic and spiritual significance as a timeless center of Jewish prayer, hope, and resilience.
Those present thanked Adams for his unwavering support of Israel and his firm stance against antisemitism.
During his visit, Adams reflected on the moment, saying:
“As I finish my term, I wanted to come back here to Israel and let you know that I served you as mayor, but I want to continue to have the title that is more important to me than anything. I am your brother. Thank you.”
Before departing, Adams shared a message with New Yorkers about the goals of his multi-day trip:
“We will meet with business and government leaders to discuss new opportunities to partner with our friends in Israel and to strengthen our shared work in fighting antisemitism.”
As part of his visit, Adams met with several recently released hostages, including Yarden Bibas, whose wife, Shiri, and young sons, Ariel and Kfir, were tragically murdered, along with Bar Kuperstein and Sagi Dekel Chen, both freed after being kidnapped on October 7.
The mayor described the meeting as profoundly moving:
“It was heartbreaking to hear the firsthand stories of Yarden Bibas, Bar Kuperstein, and Sagi Dekel Chen. Their resilience and courage are truly inspiring and their stories will stay with me forever.”
