The Israeli embassy in Italy discovered a violently anti-Semitic post by a senior official at the Islamic University in Lucca.
A high-ranking official at the Islamic University in Lucca, Italy, recently wrote on his Facebook page that “there needs to be a final solution for Zionists,” Ynet reported on Saturday.
The “Final Solution” was the Nazi plan to annihilate the Jews of Europe during World War II.
The post, written by Raffaello Villani, the university’s secretary, was deleted after being discovered via monitoring by the Israeli embassy. The embassy, however, took a screen shot of the post, which continued to say that “the real Jews are the victims of Zionism.”
Last year, in an interview with Newsweek Magazine, Giampiero Paladini, the university’s founder and a convert to Islam, said that the institution aims to bridge the philosophical divide between the Western and Islamic worlds. According to Newsweek, Paladini, a former attorney, claims to be a champion of tolerance and enlightenment.
“Instead of studying the Bible, we will study the Koran… Instead of a church, we will have a mosque, and we will study subjects that are influenced by Sharia (Islamic law),” Paladini said.
The Israeli embassy sent a photo of the screen shot to the Italian Senate’s vice-chair of the Israeli-Italian inter-parliamentary cooperation foundation, who followed through by asking the interior and education ministers how they plan to handle the incident.
