More than 10,000 Iranian troops killed or wounded but regime likely to survive, says IDF official

Nearly three-quarters of Iran’s missile launchers were knocked out of service, senior IDF official says, as US and Israel systematically eliminate regime’s command-and-control capabilities and military industry.

More than 10,000 Iranian soldiers and pro-regime militia members have been either killed or wounded since the beginning of the joint American-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, a senior IDF officer said over the weekend.

Channel 12‘s Amit Segal cited an unnamed source within the Israeli military who said that Operation Epic Fury and Operation Roaring Lion – as the US and Israeli air campaigns are known, respectively – have far exceeded the prewar expectations of American planners.

“The Americans didn’t believe we would succeed in the decapitation strike,” the official said, adding that nearly three-quarters of Iran’s ballistic missile launchers have been neutralized thus far.

“We destroyed between 160 and 190 launchers, disabled about 200 more, and around 150 remain operational. The missile launcher crews are afraid to come out; there are desertions and refusals to carry out orders. Every day we hunt down several launchers.”

The official added that the regime’s casualties exceed 10,000, with heavy damage inflicted on Iran’s military industry, its nuclear program, and its ability to exert authority within the country.

“We have entered a phase that may not be heroic and may seem boring — the systematic destruction of command-and-control headquarters, military industry, and nuclear infrastructure. The Iranians have over 10,000 killed and wounded among their security forces.”

However, despite the serious damage the regime has suffered, Israel now expects the Islamic Republic to survive the current conflict, albeit in a significantly reduced capacity, limping along with a crippled economy and under growing international isolation following Iran’s attacks on its neighbors.

“What will likely exist after the war is a weakened regime, an economic siege, diplomatic isolation, and eventually a revolution. The situation corresponds to what we expected would happen.”
