PA refuses to condemn murder of 17-year-old Israeli hiker

“PA TV reported that Israeli forces had set up roadblocks around Ramallah ‘on the pretext’ that someone had killed an Israeli soldier,” says PMW.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) has failed to condemn the murder of 17-year-old Israeli Rina Shnerb on Friday, says Palestinian Media Watch (PMW). She died of critical wounds sustained in the bomb attack while on a hike in Samaria with her father and brother, who were wounded.

“Despite numerous checks, and notwithstanding the fact that the PA media has referred to the attack on multiple occasions, Palestinian Media Watch could find no statement whatsoever of any PA official condemning the attack. Rather the PA media chose to falsely claim that Rina was a ‘soldier’ and a ‘settler,'” said the watchdog, an Israeli research institute.

“PA TV reported that Israeli forces had set up roadblocks around Ramallah ‘on the pretext’ that someone had killed an Israeli soldier,” it added.

WAFA, the official PA news agency, referred to Rina as a settler, even though she lived in Lod, located within the 1949 Armistice lines, noted PMW.

The Fatah party of PA leader Mahmoud Abbas also referred to the 17-year-old terror victim as a settler in a post on its official Facebook page,  says the media watch group.

On the other hand, PMW writes, “if the terrorist/s who murdered Rina are caught alive, the PA will pay them a salary in prison and even after their release. If they are killed during an attempt to arrest them, the PA will pay their families a monthly allowance for the rest of their lives.

“The PA will pay these salaries/allowances simply because the terrorist/s carried out a terrorist attack, and regardless of whether the terrorists belong to Fatah, Hamas, or acted alone.”

The PA continues this practice despite legislation passed both by the U.S. Congress and the Knesset sanctioning the authority for financially rewarding acts of terror.
