Pakistan pushes to revive US-Iran talks as Vance says Tehran rejected terms

Pakistan is working to bring the United States and Iran back to the negotiating table and extend a fragile ceasefire after talks in Islamabad ended without an agreement, as Washington signaled firm red lines.

A Pakistani source close to the government expressed disappointment over the failure of the talks between Iran and the United States, Kan News reported Sunday.

Despite the outcome, Pakistan is continuing efforts to facilitate another round of negotiations and prevent a return to the fighting.

According to the source, officials are seeking to extend the ceasefire beyond two weeks to give diplomacy more time.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a press briefing following the departure of Vice President JD Vance.

Dar said multiple rounds of comprehensive and constructive talks were held between the two delegations and reaffirmed Pakistan’s role as a mediator. He expressed hope that both sides would take a positive approach toward achieving lasting peace and prosperity in the region and globally.

Dar also stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire.

US officials described a different outcome. Vance told reporters that while Washington had been “flexible,” it had presented its “final and best offer.”

He characterized the discussions as “substantive discussions,” but said the United States would not compromise on its “red lines.”

Speaking during a press conference at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, Pakistan, Vance said Iran has “chosen not to accept our terms.”

President Trump, in a Truth Social post Sunday, indicated that Iran’s nuclear program remains a central point of disagreement between the two sides.

Efforts to revive negotiations continue as Pakistan seeks to keep both parties engaged despite the impasse.
