Palestinian security officers and several Palestinian terrorists were arrested by Israeli security forces on suspicion they were involved in a shooting attack against IDF soldiers in the Tul Karem area last month. Some of the suspects were released from Israeli prisons during the 2011 prisoner exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.
No one was injured in the attack.
The Shin Bet announced Sunday that they arrested Udi Taysier Abed Allah, a member of the Palestinian security forces, Tahsin Ahsan Ahmed Salameh, a member of the Palestinian security forces and a known terrorist released in the Shalit deal, Ta’ar Mahmoud Salim Assaf, a member of the Palestinian security forces, Fadi Benan Muhammad Zuan, an arms dealer, and two others in connection with the attack.
In total, the cell members were responsible for seven shooting attacks and another two attempted attacks.
The terror cell further planned to acquire high grade weapons, but did not have the funds. Instead, they used improvised weapons and explosives, including two homemade “Gustav” machine guns.
“This investigation exposed severe terror activity, which was meant to harm IDF soldiers and in which members of the Palestinian security forces partook, ” the Shin Bet stated.
