Three IDF soldiers, including a high ranking officer, and a border policeman were wounded Tuesday morning when a Palestinian terrorist rammed his car into them as they were securing the Tapuach junction, a central location in Samaria.
IDF forces shot and critically wounded the terrorist while he was still in his car, and he was taken to an Israeli hospital for treatment.
All victims were taken to Beilinson hospital in Petah Tikvah, one with moderate wounds and the other three with light wounds. They were treated and released later in the day.
Commander of the Border Police in Judea and Samaria Uzi Levy commended his officer’s “decisive and professional” response.
“They acted as expected of them. Their alertness brought an end to the incident within seconds, thus eliminating further harm to our forces and innocent civilians.”
An hour later, Israeli security forces were successful in thwarting another attack in Jerusalem.
Guards securing Jerusalem’s light rail apprehended a suspicious looking Palestinian in the vicinity of Jerusaem’s central bus station. A search on his body revealed he was carrying a knife.
Policemen arrested the would-be terrorist and took him in for further questioning.
These incidents were the latest in a long series of Palestinian terror attacks, which have plagued Israelis over the course of the past two months, claiming the lives of 21 victims and wounding 187.
‘We Will be Victorious Once Again’
Touring the Gush Etzion Junction on Monday, the site of several recent terror attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delineated new punitive actions Israel intended to take against the Palestinian terrorists who have been attacking Israelis on almost a daily basis.
Accompanied by the security establishment’s top brass and after meeting with local leaders, Netanyahu said Israel is “going everywhere” offensively.
“There is no restriction on the actions of the IDF and the security forces. On the contrary – there is full support and this is important. First of all, there are unlimited offensive operations.”
Beyond operating in Palestinian cities, the IDF will now check every Palestinian vehicle on the main roads. Israel is combating online incitement and will also revoke work permits in Israel for the families of terrorists.
“Such a family is aware of the fact that that there is an extremist – or one who is about to carry out an attack – in its midst, and such a family has no right to work in the State of Israel. We are revoking it; this is important,” said Netanyahu.
“It seems to me that the most important tool that we have is the perseverance, courage and determination to fight terrorism just as we have fought its various expressions over the past 100 years. This we have in abundance and with them we will be victorious once again,” the Israeli premier concluded.
