Though the Gaza front has been relatively quiet, Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists are constantly working to prepare for their next major attack on Israel and occasionally fire rockets at Israel’s civilian population centers.
Palestinian terrorists fired a rocket from Gaza at Israel’s civilian population, which exploded in Sderot’s industrial zone on Sunday. No one was injured in the attack, and there were no reports of damage.
Sirens went off in southern Israel, sending thousands of civilians running for cover in the height of their summer vacation.
The launch was traced to Beit Hanun, in the Gaza Strip.
Shortly after, Israel’s Air Force (IAF) attacked Hamas terror infrastructure in Gaza, and an Israeli tank fired at another Hamas target, an IDF spokesman stated.
Palestinian sources report a 20-year-old was lightly wounded in the attack.
Security officials in Gaza’s vicinity have been ordered to remain on high alert and prepare for possible further rocket fire.
The last such rocket attack occurred last month, when Palestinian terrorists fired a rocket which hit a children’s daycare center that was vacated at the time. Damage was caused to the building, but no one was injured in the attack. Four people were treated for shock.
A group affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) terror organization, the Omar Hadid Brigades, has claimed responsibility for previous attacks.
Since Operation Protective Edge in the summer of 2014, there have been multiple rockets attacks from Gaza, and over 20 rockets have exploded in Israeli territory.
