Paris airport shop locates Ben Gurion Airport in ‘Occupied Palestine’

A store in Paris’ Orly Airport issued receipts claiming that Israel’s primary international airport is in “Occupied Palestinian Territories.”

By World Israel News Staff

An Israeli couple shopping in a duty free store in Paris’ Orly Airport was shocked to discover that the receipt they were handed located Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in “Occupied Palestinian Territories,” reported the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).

The Israeli airport is in fact in Lod, just south of Tel Aviv, which is not classified as disputed territory.

The incident occurred in October at the Royal Quartz store, which is operated by Galeries Lafayette, France’s premiere department store.

According to JTA, a Galeries Lafayette official named Arthur Lemoine claimed the mistake on the receipt was being addressed following a complaint by the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s director for international relations, Shimon Samuels.

In the past, France has required special labeling for products from Judea and Samaria, but discontinued the practice due to a discrimination lawsuit targeting the practice.

The campaign to label products from Judea and Samaria, portions of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights was sanctioned by the European Commission, which issued guideline in 2015 related to the practice.
