Polish lawmaker invites Ocasio-Cortez to see Nazi death camps

In the aftermath of Ocasio-Cortez’s comments comparing America’s detention centers to Nazi concentration camps, a Polish minister has extended an “olive branch of education.”

Polish MP Dominik Tarczynski, vice president of European Conservatives in the European Council, formally invited Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who represents a diverse district in Queens and the Bronx, N.Y., to visit the Nazi death camps and concentration camps.

Ocasio-Cortez sparked new controversy this week by comparing the detention centers for illegal American immigrants at the southern border to Nazi concentration camps.

The American detention centers have been a topic of controversy since former President Barack Obama’s administration, but are being exposed more than ever with President Donald Trump in charge.

“DHS [Department of Homeland Security] ripped 1000s of children from their parents & put them in cages with inhumane conditions,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “They call their cells ‘dog pounds’ & “freezers.’ I will never apologize for calling these camps what they are.”

She also attempted to draw a distinction between concentration camps and death camps.

“And for the shrieking Republicans who don’t know the difference: concentration camps are not the same as death camps. Concentration camps are considered by experts as the mass detention of civilians without trial. And that’s exactly what this administration is doing,” she tweeted.

‘Cheapen[ing] history for political point-scoring’

“I am formally inviting @AOC to come to Poland, where Adolf Hitler set up the worst chain of concentration camps the world has ever seen,” Dominik tweeted, “So that she may see that scoring political points with enflamed rhetoric is unacceptable in our contemporary Western societies.”

Dominik went on to specifically invite Ocasio-Cortez to the extermination camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Belzec, Sobibor and Majdanek.

“This is why when someone cheapens the history, or uses it for political point-scoring, we become agitated and upset,” he said. “I understand that there are heightened tensions in your politics right now, but I would urge severe caution in attempting to leverage phrases such as ‘concentration camp’ for political ends,” he wrote in the invitation. “It will lead nowhere good.

“With this in mind, however, I wish to extend the olive branch of education to you. Congresswoman, I would be delighted if you accept my offer to come to Poland and study the concentration camps here for real, so that you can see firsthand how different it is from your immigration processing centers on the U.S. border.”

“At these camps… over three million human souls were extinguished,” Tarczyński concluded.

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments infuriated Jewish groups, including the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum.
