Pro-Hamas EU MP arrested for glorifying terrorism

Anti-Israel French lawmaker in the European Union parliament to be tried for glorifying terrorism, found to be in possession of illegal drugs.

By World Israel News Staff

A European Union lawmaker was arrested last week over her public support of anti-Israeli terror and now faces charges of glorifying terrorism.

On Thursday, police detained MEP Rima Hassan, a far-left, Syrian-born French lawmaker in the European Parliament.

Hassan, 33, is due to stand trial on July 7 after prosecutors charged her with glorifying terrorism over a deleted post on X that celebrated the 1972 Lod Airport massacre in Israel.

Authorities are also examining a separate drug-related allegation after police reportedly found the marijuana-based substance, CBD, and the synthetic drug 3-MMC in her bag when she was detained for questioning.

The terrorism case centers on a March social media post in which Hassan referenced remarks by Kōzō Okamoto, a convicted member of the Japanese Red Army involved in the Lod Airport massacre, which killed 26 people.

“Kozo Okamoto: I have dedicated my youth to the Palestinian cause. Where there is oppression, resistance will not just be a right, but a duty,” Hassan wrote in the now-deleted post.

Hassan, a French-Palestinian member of the European Parliament elected as part of the far-left La France Insoumise (LFI) in 2024, has rejected the accusations and cast the case as politically motivated.

She also denied being in possession of illegal drugs.

“On the basis of illegal leaks, I have had to endure accusations that I was in possession of several drugs. These accusations are totally false,” Hassan wrote on X.

LFI leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon denounced the detention as an abuse of state power. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez rejected that criticism, saying anti-terror laws must be enforced regardless of political status.

A fierce critic of Israel, Hassan was barred from entering Israel in February 2025 and twice joined flotillas attempting to run Israel’s security blockade on the Gaza Strip.
