Did Israel attack pro-Iranian militia in Iraq?

A pro-Iranian militia base in western Iraq was attacked from the air on Sunday.

A Base of the pro-Iranian militia “Al-Hashad al-Sha’abi” was attacked by a drone on Sunday in western Iraq, according to Lebanese channel Al-Miadin.

The base is located in the western Al-Anbar district. No reports were reported.

No one has taken responsibility for the incident.

Israel has been blamed for a series of airstrikes on Iraqi territory. On August 25, a drone strike reportedly hit a pro-Iranian militia affiliated with Hezbollah, killing one and destroying two vehicles carrying arms. Israel was deemed responsible although the IDF refused to comment.

On August 12, fingers pointed at Israel for an attack on a military base southwest of Baghdad belonging to the same militia, called the Popular Mobilization Forces. One civilian was killed and 13 were wounded in that attack, according to reports.

Last week, airstrikes hit strategic positions held by pro-Iranian Shi’ite militias near the Iraqi border, although within Syria, according to a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Iraq’s Al-Afaq has claimed that Israel was responsible for the attacks in the Syrian city of Al Bukamal. The IDF again refused to comment.
