Advanced Hamas Rockets Pose New Threat to Israel

Hamas’ development of new short-range rockets comes during an uptick in hawkish rhetoric against Israel from its senior leadership.

The terrorist organization Hamas has developed new short-range rockets capable of carrying a heavy amount of explosives, according to a recent report on Israel Army Radio.

The report adds the new rockets are apparently superior to the short-range rockets and mortar shells Hamas customarily fires on Israel.

Hamas senior official Khaled Mashaal, who lives in Qatar, hinted at the terrorist organization’s intention to invest in enhanced military technology and capabilities, while addressing a memorial service in a broadcasted speech for senior military leader Mazen Fuqaha, killed in Gaza City on Friday night.

“Israel decided to change the rules of the game, and we accept the challenge,” Mashaal said

Blaming Israel for Fuqaha’s death, Mashaal said “the Zionist occupier took from us a great hero and for this we will not sit quietly.”

“(Israel) thinks that it knows us and that we will not be able to deal with the new rules of the game it has created due to the balance of power,” Mashaal added. “We say that our will is stronger than your weapons.”

Hamas threatened to retaliate against Israel shortly after Fuqaha’s death.

The head of the Ashkelon Regional Council, Yair Farjun, told Israel Army Radio the city is taking precautionary steps in case of escalation.

“W are preparing for every scenario and if we have to evacuate, we will evacuate,” he said.
