Report: Israeli Air Force bombs targets in Lebanon

Unconfirmed Lebanese reports of an Israeli airstrike in Lebanon emerged on Tuesday. As a matter of policy, the IDF does not comment on foreign news stories.

Israeli Air Force (IAF) warplanes attacked two targets in Lebanon on Tuesday, Lebanese news sources reported.

The reports indicate that there were several casualties in the attack. It is unclear what the IAF’s targets were.

The attack allegedly occurred in the Qalamoun Mountains region on the Lebanon-Syria border, where the Hezbollah terror organization is waging a massive battle against Syrian Sunni rebels to reclaim control of the region.

Hezbollah officials, in an interview with Al-Manar television and Lebanese news site Al-Ahad, both affiliated with the terror organization, denied reports of the attacks.

The IDF would not confirm the strikes, stating that it does not comment on foreign reports.

It is also possible that Syrian rebels were responsible for the attack.

Israel has reportedly attacked Syrian and Hezbollah targets in the past, hitting weapons depots and shipments in an attempt to stop Hezbollah’s acquisition of advanced weapons.

There were several unconfirmed reports of IAF attacks in April. Speaking that month, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon warned Hezbollah against arming itself to attack Israel, possibly alluding to the IDF attacks.

“We won’t allow a transfer of quality weapons to terrorist organizations, Hezbollah foremost among them, and we will know to reach it [Hezbollah] and those who direct it at all times and all places. We will not allow Hezbollah to establish a terror infrastructure on our borders with Syria, and we have the ability to reach anyone who threatens Israeli citizens along our borders or even far from them,” he stated.
