The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has dramatically redefined the parameters of aerial warfare through the staggering intensity of Operation Roaring Lion, which launched in late February 2026.

When contrasted with Operation Rising Lion, the 12-day campaign from June 2025, the shift in doctrine is unmistakable.

During the first 24 hours of Roaring Lion, the IAF deployed over 1,200 munitions across Iran, a figure that is more than double the volume used in the opening phase of the previous conflict.

This rapid escalation allowed the IAF to achieve aerial superiority within a single day, a feat that took significantly longer during the 2025 engagement.

The sheer speed of the current operation is its most defining characteristic.

Military analysts from the Foreign Policy Research Institute note that while Rising Lion required nearly two weeks to expend approximately 4,300 munitions, Roaring Lion surpassed that total in less than four days.

By the end of the first 30 hours alone, the IAF had dropped over 2,000 bombs, effectively matching the entire first week’s output of the 2025 war in a fraction of the time.

This “crazy pace of fire” was supported by critical logistical advantages, including the integration of U.S. tanker aircraft that allowed Israeli fighter jets to maintain a constant presence over high-value targets in Tehran and Isfahan.

While Rising Lion utilized a high percentage of unmanned aerial vehicles to neutralize missile launchers, Roaring Lion has prioritized heavy, precision-guided munitions delivered by 200 fighter jets to dismantle hardened nuclear infrastructure and decapitate military leadership.

The result is an operation that has achieved in hours what its predecessor struggled to accomplish in days, reflecting a strategic shift toward overwhelming, decisive force from the very first strike.

During the first 24 hours of Operation Roaring Lion, the IAF focused on a massive decapitation strike against Iran’s strategic infrastructure.

Primary targets included nuclear facilities in Natanz and Isfahan, alongside the headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard in Tehran.

To ensure air superiority, the IAF neutralized S-300 and S-400 air defense systems and destroyed over 100 ballistic missile launchers.

This rapid suppression of enemy fire enabled subsequent waves to hit military airfields and command centers.
